NewRevs 2023 – Joy Killian

Joy is to be ordained as a deacon on Sunday 2 July and will serve his her curacy at Pleck and Bescot

Joy is from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands where she has lived for the majority of her life. She has a large family consisting of four older brothers, her Mom, Ann, and, Dad, Mac. She also has a wonderful teenage daughter called Amelia. Joy is a secondary school RS teacher and she will continue in this career alongside her ministry.

Joy believes God is calling her to minister not only within a church setting but also in her day-to-day work as a teacher. She believes that mission extends into all parts of her life but is also very much looking forward to a sacramental ministry. Joy would say the heart of her ministry is to show the love of Jesus through the way she works and lives.

The biggest misconception in preparing for ministry is, according to Joy, that people have tended to assume that you know everything there is to know about God and the Bible. The truth is you learn how to discern and question more which in turn leads to a deeper and richer relationship with God.

Joy’s advice for anyone exploring God’s calling on their life is to spend time praying and listening to God. To seek guidance and discernment through the scriptures and to listen to the voice of others.
