#NewRevs 2023 - Dawn Walker

Dawn is to be ordained as a deacon on Saturday 1 July and will serve her curacy at Ashley and Mucklestone and Broughton and Croxton

Dawn has lived in Newcastle-under-Lyme all her life; she is married to Christopher and has two children, Andrew and Emily. The family also includes a very active Springer Spaniel puppy, Penny. Andrew is now living in Sheffield with his wife Becca and Emily lives locally with her husband Kristen. Emily is pregnant and all the family are looking forward to welcoming the new member of the family later this year.

Most of Dawn’s career has been with Severn Trent Water carrying out various roles over the years, she is now an auditor within the estates department. Over the years she has found that many people have sought her out for advice on many things, they have asked her to pray for them and to explain her faith. When the opportunity arose several years ago for her to train as a Mental Health First Aider she was one of the first in the queue to sign up. This awareness and skill have opened up many opportunities to help people and to point them in the right direction of where they can find further assistance.

Dawn’s walk with God has included various activities within life through church and the local community. These activities include working with children, and vulnerable adults, pastoral care for those who have been bereaved and those wishing to have their children baptized. Other areas included leading the Prayer Ministry Team. Dawn states that it became clearer to her that God was asking more, through the call of the congregation and support from several priests she began the discernment process.

Dawn believes that God is calling her to help others to discern what God may be doing in their lives, and to walk alongside those who are searching, whilst encouraging those people who need the confidence to have a go at something new. Dawn is excited to be serving her curacy within the Loggerheads Benefice and to see where God is at work.

For Dawn studying for ordained ministry at Queen’s Theological College has been encouraging, enlightening and overwhelming at times. The support from staff and fellow students has been awesome and it helped Dawn to understand that even though coming to training at a later stage in life everything is possible with God. She would recommend to anyone that if you are being called by God then take that leap of faith.
