Open Churches

An open church is a church people can pray in.

  • The Churches Visitor and Tourism Association has a toolkit for keeping a building open and attracting visitors.

  • Ecclesiastical Insurance's general advice is for churches to be open in the day:

We are often asked whether churches should be kept locked when not in use. Our answer is no! We want to encourage churches to stay open and welcome more visitors, as long as appropriate precautions are taken.

  • 'Open for You' by Paul Bond (Canterbury Press 14.99) is a practical book about making our churches more welcoming, with a special focus on visitors to open churches. Available here
