Bishop Michael will welcome the two speakers: The Revd Lucy Winkett and Michael Wakelin who will address this topical subject from two similar but different perspectives.

The Revd Lucy Winkett

Lucy Winkett is Rector of St James’s Piccadilly, and Priest in Charge of St Pancras Euston Road, a writer, broadcaster and musician. One of the first generation of women to be ordained priest in the 1990s, and the first woman priest to be appointed to St Paul’s Cathedral, she holds degrees in modern history and theology from Cambridge and Birmingham universities and an honorary doctorate from Winchester University. She was a founding advisor for the public theology thinktank Theos and later Tortoise media and she co-founded ‘Leading Women’, a national development programme for women clergy. She is a regular contributor to Radio 4’s Today Programme ‘Thought for the Day’ and a published author. Her most influential spiritual experiences have been living in a L’Arche community with people with learning disabilities and completing the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises during a month in silence.

Mr Michael Wakelin

Michael is Executive Chair of the Religion Media Centre, a founding member of the Religion and Belief Literacy Partnership and a Consultant to the City of London’s "Faith in the City" project. He was formerly Head of Religious Broadcasting at the BBC and continues in broadcasting as an Executive Producer at TBI Media responsible for Pause for Thought on Radio 2. He is on the Faith Advisory Board for the Football Association, co founder of the Senior Faith Leadership Programme based at St George’s Windsor and a Trustee at the Reckitt Trust.
