Why Feeding our Faith mattersOur recent diocesan conversations showed a deep hunger for stronger discipleship, greater confidence in the gospel, and better support for people exploring faith for the first time. As we seek to grow younger, more diverse, and more outward-facing, we must build strong foundations. Feeding our Faith focuses on three essentials:
This is how disciples are formed. This is how evangelism becomes natural. This is how the Church grows. |

Feeding our Faith
Feeding Our Faith
1 A culture of everyday discipleship
We are creating an expectation that every member of our churches will have ways to explore and grow in faith outside Sunday worship.
This includes:
- Small groups and home groups centred on Scripture and prayer
- Resources to help people read the Bible with confidence
- Encouragement to talk about faith in everyday life
Discipleship is for everyone — not just a few.
2 Confidence in evangelism
Many people long to share their faith but feel unsure how.
We want to cultivate a diocesan culture where:
- Christians speak naturally about what Jesus Christ means to them
- People understand the story of Scripture and can share it simply
- Parishes celebrate and share stories of how God is already at work
Evangelism begins with confidence in God’s goodness.
3 A 'cradle to grave' pathway of faith formation
Life events are missional opportunities. We are developing a consistent, high‑quality diocesan suite of resources including:
- Baptism preparation and follow‑on discipleship
- Confirmation courses
- Missional ministry following weddings, funerals and bereavement
- Practical tools parishes can adopt and adapt
Every encounter is an invitation to begin or renew a journey of faith.
4 Strengthening chaplaincies and new worshipping communities
Chaplaincies are frontline places of encounter with people who may never walk through a church door. We are:
- Supporting closer working between chaplains and parishes
- Encouraging chaplains as evangelists and pioneers
- Developing new worshipping communities coming out of chaplaincy contexts
The gospel flourishes wherever people are met with Christ-like love.
5 Investing in young disciples and young leaders
Young people are not the church of tomorrow — they are the church of today.
We will:
- Develop new learning pathways for young adults
- Build up cohorts of young leaders
- Provide resources so children and young people can explore faith in age‑appropriate, inspiring ways
- Equip leaders in church schools through a dedicated discipleship course
Growing younger begins by investing deeply and consistently in the young.
6 Embedding inclusion and wellbeing in discipleship
Following Jesus means caring for all people. Therefore, we commit to:
- Resourcing churches to be truly inclusive and reflective of their communities
- Using tools such as the Difference Course to deepen understanding across differences
Discipleship flourishes in safe, welcoming, diverse communities.
