School Chaplaincies

Chaplains in education play a unique role in the institutions in which they serve – providing spiritual care and pastoral support for student and staff alike and being a visible Christian presence for all members of the community.

Education Chaplains often help to lead and facilitate the worshipping life of the institution – enabling acts of worship and reflection which are meaningful not only for Christian staff and students but for people of all faiths and none. They provide a ‘listening ear’ – coming alongside people in significant moments in their educational and working lives; and they play a significant role in helping their institutions develop a shared understanding of their vision, ethos and values.

In this Diocese, Chaplains often find themselves working in very religiously diverse settings; and so the creative opportunity and challenge is often for them to find a way to be faithful to the proclamation of the good news of Jesus; whilst at the same time, ministering to, and being highly respectful of, those from different faith traditions.
