The Archbishops are again inviting us to join Christians around the nation and world in praying the prayer ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ during the period from Ascension to Pentecost (10-20 May 2018), and both simple prayer events and larger gatherings are being planned by churches and other groups all over the Diocese.
The period will begin with a sending out service at the Cathedral on Ascension Day, and conclude with gatherings in our Episcopal Areas. In between, churches are asked to enable people to ‘pray as they can’ and a wealth of resources is on offer at www.thykingdomcome.global/prayerresources.
We have a significant stock of some of the key resources produced nationally, includingnumber of resources are available again this year:
- Morning & Evening Prayer | for the period from the day after Ascension day until the Day of Pentecost reprinted from Common Worship in a handy booklet.
- Novena 2018 | a pocket-sized booklet prayers, readings and meditation and colourfully illustrated for the days between Ascension and Pentecost.
- Prayer Journal | also pocket-sized, this booklet has a different theme each day of the whole Thy Kingdom Come period and space to write in too.
If you would like copies of these for your church, school, chaplaincy or Fresh Expression, they are available in bulk from the Area Bishops’ and Archdeacons’ offices - please do phone ahead before collecting - and the Diocesan office at St Mary’s House in Lichfield, while stocks last.
We have been generously supplied these at delivery cost, meaning we can offer you small numbers for free and bulk supplies for a suggested donation of 20p per copy payable to LDBF.
We do hope you will find these an encouragement to join in a joyful, outgoing time of prayer which envisions the Kingdom in our particular place and culminates in the Pentecost prayer – Come Holy Spirit.
Below are just some of the Thy Kingdom Come events planned in the diocese - but to add your own and find others on the global Thy Kingdom Come website.
