Funeral of Former Precentor
16 June 2012 THE FUNERAL of a parish priest who went on to be Canon Precentor at Lichfield Cathedral for 11 years takes place this week.
Clergy from around the diocese and the country are expected at the funeral on Friday (22nd June) at St Andrew’s Church in Shifnal. It begins at 2.30pm.
Aged 83, he had served at four parishes in the Lichfield Diocese before taking up the appointment of Canon Precentor in 1983 where he stayed before retiring in 1994.
Prior to serving in parish ministry, John studied at Clifton Theological College and was priested in 1955. He then worked at All Saints, West Bromwich until 1958 before moving to Oxley near Wolverhampton until 1960 and then on to Wednesfield St Thomas in 1965. He was appointed vicar of Shifnal and Boningale in 1975 when he also became rural dean.
He was made Prebendary of Lichfield Cathedral in 1980.
During retirement he took on a number of voluntary roles.
