Hundreds of Remembrance Day services will be taking place in churches, schools and in village, town and city centres across the Diocese of Lichfield tomorrow (Sunday 9th November) to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of the first world war.
And, as the nation increasingly looks to the actual anniversary - 11.00am on the 11th November - for an additional opportunity to pause and remember, churches are once again preparing to provide special services for remembrance.
On Tuesday 11th November, the Bishop of Lichfield, the Rt Revd Jonathan Gledhill, will be in Tidworth Garrison to lead a service of remembrance at St Michael’s Garrison Church for members of the 3 Mercian (Staffords). This will be the last Armistice Day service for the 3 Mercian (Staffords) in England as they are due to move to a new permanent base at Fallingbostel, Germany, in August next year.

Ball Green
Children from Ball Green Primary School join with others at the war memorial
Barton-under-Needwood
Representatives from Barton Schools will observe the two minutes silence at the war memorial.
Baschurch
A new memorial plaque will be unveiled at the war memorial in All Saints' Churchyard just before 11am.
Caverswall
An Armistice Service will be held at 6.30pm at St Peter's Church.
Longdon
Am act of remembrance will be held on the green at the corner of Swan Close, beginning at 10.45am, attended by all of the pupils from St James’ Primary School.
Norton-le-Moors
Children from Norton Primary Short will attend a service of remembrance at St Bartholomew's Church lych gate war memorial
Oswestry
Parade and service at St Oswald’s Church.
Rolleston-on-Dove
Traffic through the village will be stopped outside the lych gate war memorial, as it has been on Armistice Day every year since it was erected in 1919 and a two minutes’ silence will be observed.
West Bromwich
10.00am, Act of remembrance at the war memorial in Heath Lane Cemetery, Walsall Road.
Weston Lullingfields
Children from the village school will join members of the Royal British Legion for an act of remembrance. Children from the school recently discovered a previously unknown war grave in the churchyard, belonging to George Candlin Griffiths of the Royal Medical Corps, who died on the 20 November 1920 aged 39.
Wolstanton
St Margaret's Junior School will hold an act of remembrance at the Cenotaph outside St Margaret's Church, beginning at 10.50am.
