The communications department of the Diocese of Lichfield is highly regarded and has a long reputation as being at the forefront of groundbreaking Christian communications.
The diocese is not afraid to think the unthinkable and was the first to use television and cinema advertising in the early 1990s. It's long association with both BBC and commercial local radio stations in the area created partnerships responsible for many hours of award winning radio programmes.
It was one of the first dioceses in England to invest in the World Wide Web; and our diocesan newspaper Spotlight is a recent winner of the "Newspaper of the Year" category in the Andrew Cross Awards.
And the innovation continues. Last year the Bishop of Lichfield made a direct invitation to people to come back to church as part of a radio advertising campaign to invite people back to church - the first time a bishop had used radio advertising to make such a personal plea.
The bishop also issues a yearly video-address to his congregations - and these are also made available on the diocesan space online; as the diocese became the first in the Church of England to have dedicated space on the video sharing platform YouTube.
But these innovations don’t hide the simplicity behind everything we do - using the media, in all its forms, to communicate the message that through Jesus, God wants to restore a relationship with us.
The communications department is responsible for all internal and external communications; including the management of crises which affect the dioceses, its churches or schools; and positive pro-active media engagement.
